First Presbyterian Church : Youth Center Remodel
First Presbyterian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma was in need of a space truly dedicated to their youth, and having recently constructed a new sanctuary, had their old sanctuary space that was an ideal size and location for a new Youth Center. However, the church was very clear that this space was to look and feel like the youth’s own space and not like a leftover sanctuary; this brought about an entire interior re-invention of the space. Stone columns mimic stone found on the exterior of the building, dividing the space into zones for fellowship, worship, and learning. The worship area takes advantage of the high volume of the space - providing zones for acoustical diffusers and theaterical lighting. Large translucent glass garage doors can be opened for larger events, allowing the worship area to spill into adjacent gathering and games spaces. Another very important component to this project is providing the opportunity for the rest of the church to interact with the youth. The Filling Station coffee and snack bar and Palmer Lounge are located at the main youth entry, which also opens into the refinished Family Life Center.
